Our annual fundraiser and season celebration, we’ll be toasting the successes of 2022 and looking forward to 2023. We’ll have tasty treats from local eateries, bar service from Herald Street (and your first drink is on us!), and more! Bid on items at the silent auction, get a 50/50 ticket, and maybe win a great door prize! Complete with a little entertainment from some lovely locals, this is sure to be a delightful night where you can both celebrate and support the arts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this note asking for your support at hapax theatre’s upcoming fundraising event. This is our second year celebrating the artists that we have the good fortune to work with and ask the community to help us put money in those artists’ hands. Last year I spent a lot of time talking about the work that we do, the work we wanted to do as we came out of the pandemic, and how much we had lost. This year I want to talk about what we did. Our successes, our growth, and where we’re heading next.

Our 2022 season (our first back after being dark for 2 years) was hugely successful, with many high points. We performed three mainstage productions to more than 500 patrons, broke our box office record on two consecutive shows, and we put more than $4,800 back into the hands of creators in the community. Those payments to artists made up 58% of our overall expenses, which means that the single greatest expense we had, our biggest tangible commitment, was financially showing up for artists. And our commitment to our artists didn’t stop with direct financial compensation; we instituted new practices to prioritize physical and mental health, and brought in swing performers on every production so that nobody would face undue pressure to make sure that “the show must go on.”

We had a lot of success, and we’d like to follow it with more.

We’re a small company that punches above our weight, and can’t do it alone. So that we can continue to provide support to our community, we’re having a fundraiser on December 1st – Hapax @ Herald St. At this annual event we make merry with friends, share a glass of beer at our favourite local brewery, and toast the 2023 season. We’ll have live performances, food, a raffle, and patrons will have the chance to bid on a silent auction full of local goods and gift certificates. We respectfully ask for a donation from your business to our fundraiser and in return we’d love to promote your product/business at the event with display of your logo and promotion on social media. Last year we raised more than $3,500 to fund the work that we do, largely through the live & online auction, and hope to beat that number this year!

We look forward to deepening our commitment to artists in the city, and continuing to grow our relationships with local businesses as we emerge from the turbulence of the past couple years.
